SANTA BARBARA
Produced by Bob Freed and Rich Bomberowitch at 4-Star Studios, Lenni, PA
Guitar and Bass - Bob Freed, Piano and Rythm tracks - Rich Bomberowitch

I live in Santa Barbara - I work to pay the price
Everybody tries to smile when they suffer paradise
We try and try to keep our place on the edge of time and loss
We're running out of patience but we're keeping our fingers crossed

(chorus)
Oh loving grace in a cold dark world - Come to me, hear my prayer
Forge my signature, call my name - I feel your elusive fire I feel your elusive fire

There's a trailer park near where I live and I walk past it every few days
There's a man who sits at an old card table and I bow to his laughing face
I wonder what I'm doing here - Some old forgotten choice
And I'm walking with my sorrow now and choking on my voice

Evening falls on the old card table and the men talk of earthquakes and thieves
And then warmed by the drink and the company they go off to their own dark sleep
Come don't you say that your sorry when your voice is paralyzed
You are only living You are mystified

SOFT TALKING BLUES
Produced by Patrick Barrie Maguire at The Studio, Rosemont, PA,
Drums - Scooter, Banjo - Robert Barrie Maguire, Bass - Eric Hammerberg,
Guitar - Patrick Barrie Maguire,

There is a gentle rain falling in that first gray light
It's an hour before sunrise and my dreams take flight
The weatherman says it's gonna burn off by noon
And it's gonna be another hot one today
It's gonna be another hot one today
I just got back from the East Coast
It was a long way home and I was lost a time or two
But all along the way, there's angels on my shoulders
Wrapping me around with their soft talking blues
Angels with their soft-talking blues

So it was four days on the Vineyard with my son and my grandson
And I could never get enough of those blue angel eyes
Then down the Jersey Turnpike through that New York City noontime
To the Pennsylvania hills and the home I left behind
My family and the home I left behind
And I went to see my mother and my sisters and my brothers
And they fed me bread and wine and we ran down the years
And the children had to show me all their careful colored pictures
And their sweet flowing stories were just like music to my ears
Stories just like music to my ears

Then I drove back up to Boston and caught the plane back to LA
And in this cool gray dawn these memories take my breath away
The home fires are burning, burning clean and bright
And it's gonna be another hot one today
It's gonna be another hot one today
But all along the way there's angels on my shoulders
Angels on my shoulders and they're walking in my shoes
And all along the way, there's angels on my shoulders
Walking me around with their soft talking blues
Angels with their soft talking blues

LOVE SONG #3
Produced by Bob Freed and Rich Bomberowitch at 4-Star Studios, Lenni, PA,
Piano - Rich Bomberowitch

There's a dusting of snow on the mountain
And the gold hills have all turned to gray
And the fruit trees have laid down their burden
And summer has drifted away
But the seasons have always been travelers
Just like lovers they come and they go
And they bring all the chills and the flowers
All the sorrow and joy that you know

(chorus)
Then there you were standing beside me
There you were and I clearly could see
There was never more love in the eyes of an angel
Than I saw all around you and me

I always had an alibi
Got along on smiles and goodbyes
Nothing could hurt me there was nothing to lose
And the making of love was a lie
My freedom was a flashing fire
They would circle 'round the flame
But they burnt their fingers on the loneliness
I didn't mean to be unkind

And suddenly deep in my silence
I heard it so clear and so fine
Another solitary heartbeat
Was keeping time with mine
So when the soft arms of sorrow embrace you
Let them take you and hide you away
When summer brings sunlight to save you
You will know her - You will know her

HOLD ME
Produced by Four Star Studios
Guitar - Bob Freed, Piano- Rich Bomberowitch

Hold me she said, I'm hanging by a thread
She says hold me I am hanging by a thread
She's a strong, shining woman She's got a beautiful smile
That praises what it touches and it stays with you awhile
She says there's beauty in that starry night when it covers me with sleep
But that doesn't always help me and I got promises to keep
Promises, I got promises to keep

(chorus)
And so she goes on living free And she does it gracefully
And she needed just some comfort and I am so glad it was me
Who could hold her for a minute
There was a blessing somewhere in it for me

Help me she said, I'm hanging by a thread
And my handy man lies lonely in his bed
He says sorry I can't help you, I got problems of my own
He's a good-hearted creature, but he is wounded to the bone
He says there's beauty in that starry night when it covers me with sleep
And I like to hide out like that in the dark and the deep
You know he's wounded, wounded to the bone

He's a good man, believe it he just doesn't know what to do
He's been trying to do the right thing if he only knew
That she's not looking for a husband or a father for some kids
She just wants a man to hold her when the night comes rolling in
Someone to hold her when the night comes rolling in

She says I'm losing it today and I don't know what else to say
So just give me a minute and I'll be Ok
She says I dance around his fire but he might as well be blind
He doesn't see me dancing or the sweetness in my smile
She says there's beauty in that starry night when it covers me with sleep
But the morning doesn't find me with some company to keep
And I need some good company to keep

FIFTEEN MILES
Produced by David West, Santa Barbara, CA,
Guitar, Mandolin and Bass - David West

Fifteen miles east of Amarillo
Endless sky as far as I can see
And they're playing Gene Pitney on that oldies radio
And thoughts of you come rolling over me

(chorus)
And so I love the way these memories just come tripping through my dreams
Like the morning sun comes shining through the trees
There's a lot of things I miss about my East Coast home
But right now, I miss your company

Well there's an emptiness inside when you leave your childhood home
And all these miles they never fill it in
I've been opened up to heaven, the passion and the grief
But sometimes I feel like I have sinned

So I am searching everywhere for my redemption
And you know my confession is true
That no matter how I am broken, and no matter how I'm saved
This solitary heart remembers you

MONTEREY
Produced by David West, Santa Barbara, CA,
Guitar, Mandolin, Bass - David West

There is a sweet communion down on Alvarado Street
On a Tuesday afternoon in Monterey
The fog is like a lover when she rolls in off the bay
She holds you in her confidence and she takes your blues away
When you live here it's a secret you can share
On a farmers' market Tuesday - ask anyone down there
And they will tell you there's a magic in the air

(chorus)
And you can taste when you're cruising up on Lighthouse Avenue
And you can feel it down on Cannery Row
And you can hear it from the sea lions, barking in the Bay
There's just nothing like a day in Monterey

And there is a passionate reunion out on Lover's Point today
The ocean meets the rocks again and each will have its way
The rocks will never leave us, they promise they will stay
The ocean washes over them and it has always been this way
When you live here it's a secret you can share
On a foggy summer morning, let your bare feet take you there
And you will understand the magic in the air

It's been a long time now, since I moved away from there
I left to take a job down near LA
Well I really can't complain you know cause things are going fine
The bills are getting paid and you know it's summer all the time
But there's something missing in the air
So I need to take that ride again up that coast road all the way
To my sweet home by the bay, my Monterey

THE VISITOR
Produced b Bob Freed and Rich Bomberowitch at 4-Star Studio, Lenni, PA,
Lead guitar - P, Barrie Maguire, Rhythm guitar and bass - Bob Freed,
Drums - Steve Gallagher

In the courtyard of the office where I work
A young man has taken shelter in his flight
Face to face early one morning
And I ask him if he slept there every night
He says 'No habla Englaise' I was frightened So was he
But I held up the palm of my hand
To let him know I'd let him be

I'm uneasy with his presence
I feel the danger there
But I saw my reflection in his eyes
Behind the frozen stare
We are stuck in the silence that morning
We are predator we are prey
But we made a deal in the courtyard that morning
That we would let each other be

I was told to throw away his things
To clean out the place where he slept
The dirty pink slab of foam that he lay on
The pieces of cloth that he kept
That he uses for cover and pillow
They said we can't have this here
But we made a deal in the courtyard that morning
That we would let each other be

I changed the arrangement of the scattered things
So it looked like I cleaned up the space
I moved boxes of scrap wood into a row
To make a secret place
Big enough to hide that small body
So no one will watch as he sleeps
And no one will have to look at
The secret little home that he keeps

I look at his space in the afternoon
He keeps a radio hidden where he sleeps
He listens at night to the radio
I guess it's part of the company he keeps
Anything unhidden would surely be stolen
There are others needing comfort in their fear
But he seems to be doing ok
So I just let him be

I saw a fishing rod out there today
He must catch fish from the ocean to eat
He's no more than fifteen or sixteen
With eyes that are back and deep
It was fearful that day when I saw him
We are predator We are prey
But we made a deal in the courtyard that morning
And we just let each other be
Yes we made a deal in the courtyard that morning
So we just let each other be,

LIKE A RIVER
Produced by Michael Selig at Blue Beach Studio, Monterey, CA and David West, Santa Barbara, CA,
Guitar and bass - David West

Midnight, high desert, and a single falling star,
Reminds me I am once again alone
The big fear is dancing in my heart with the hoping
That everything just might work out pretty soon,
The fire's down to coals and I'm wondering
If I throw another log on that fire
Will it burn again or just go out for good
Or will it smolder like my melancholy mood

(chorus)
And my friend in Albuquerque he says he misses me
He says he doesn't understand his life without me
So when I go down there to see him
I'm gonna wrap my self around him
I'm gonna lose myself inside him
Like a river rolling down to the sea

And when he calls to say hello and to see if I'm ok
Well I can feel his tears right behind his eyes
And I'm wondering if that thousand miles that stretches out between us
Will erase his face from the pictures in my mind
Like the raging tides of winter
Will wear away the edges of the world
Even continents sometimes will break apart
And you can say the same in matters of the heart

MOVING
Produced by Bob Freed and Rich Bomberowitch at 4-Star Studio, Lenni, PA,
Guitar - Bob Freed, Piano and rhythm tracks - Rich Bomberowitch,

There's a chilly wind blowing through my heart tonight
I'm snowed in and more is on the way
I've studied all the reasons all the changing of the seasons
California's looking better every day

(chorus)
So come on and sit here beside me for a while
Try to understand my wanderlust
We'll all be forgiven all the dead and all the living
And we'll all say farewell when we must

I've loved my men and my children, my silence and my voice
As I stumble through the landscape of my life
And though I always hoping just to get away clean
Goodbyes they always cut me like a knife

I've walked through the deep snow of Albany NY
Cincinnatti had that heartland groove
Philadelphia has my family and those deep green woods
Why would anybody ever want to move

Well Jesus must have suffered when they nailed him to the cross
He said why have you forsaken me
And if Jesus couldn't make it through his life without regrets
Well how could we how could we

COYOTE MOON
Produced by Bob Freed and Rich Bomberowitch, 4-Star Studio, Lenni, PA
Guitar - Bob Freed

There's a full moon shining through my window
On this cold February night
The time of old is melted gold
The time of new not yet in view
And my heart beats in the middle here
And life has just begun
And it's a snow moon, a hungry moon, a frightened coyote moon

The reindeer hides just like you and me
On this cold February night
Are you listening to me Listen carefully
I'm saying it clear cause I want you to hear
My heart beats in the middle here
And life has just begun
And it's the snow moon, the hungry moon, the frightened coyote moon

Well they named this moon a long time ago
On some cold February night
Eternal change It'll wax and wane
Ocean waves carve out ancient caves
And my heart beats in the middle here
And life has just begun
And it's the snow moon, the hungry moon, the frightened coyote moon,
